Barcelona was the main city for the republican movement during the spanish civil war… those republicans were the exact opposite of the American Republican party… they believed in a democratic republic, with elements of socialism and anarchism. YES.. Barcelona was once the main city for the anarcho-syndicalists who fought at republicans against Franco who fought with an army that included troops from throughout the spanish empire, especially Morrocco.
Anyway they lost.. Franco won.. and Barcelona was flattened. Remember that as you wonder around.
