Madge,

I’ve never seen you so smitten with admiration. It was nice hearing you catching yourself — pulling back almost every disgusting word just to re-submit it in such a way to wax poetic about Susan Graham!

It was childishly sweet. I saw the little girl in you bursting out during those moments.

The gay playing gay thing is all comes down to cash.

Financial backers of films think that gay playing gay is box-office bankrutpcy until proven true, but nobody’s putting the cash on the line to do so. So that’s what we get: gay actors low-budget movies with lower-paid writing, directing, and acting talent making the occasional breakout gem in a crowd of crap. The talent goes for the cash, delivering lipservice to us homos all the way to the bank while we do their hair and makeup.

The above is about as clear an argument as ever for government funding for the arts. Too bad the government hates faggots, though.

It’s no coincidence that many of the early gay activists were socialists (not communists, idiots, socialists…go read some George Bernard Shaw and come back), and as many of them died and were overshadowed by our becoming a MARKET instead of a MOVEMENT, issues like these get swept under the rug in exchange for providing a keg or two at your nextg big gay event. Ugh.

As for the problem with straight actors playing gay parts, I think ultimately you’re right Madge but I don’t believe the gays will get there through revolution, rather evolution. If something pushes the movement forward by even a baby step, that baby step should be cherished (or at least appreciated, defended and held). Not to say more is not deserved, but, keep in mind that within your short lifetime the gay movement is trying to go from in the closet to totally normal. That’s a lot of changing for a society that has been thinking their parochial ways for centuries.

Granted, if I were gay, I wouldn’t want my whole existence to be summed up by Will and Grace or Broke Back Mountain, nor should it be, but at least it’s starting to be recognized that there is an issue – even if it is through these almost patronizing ways. At one time it was thought to be rather magnanimous to give the black man a whole 3/5 of a vote.

I think anyone who believes in treating humans like humans wishes this process would go faster and what is right to be right, right now. But since it isn’t happening, yet, something is better than nothing.

Nonetheless, I think you should keep bitching about it, Madge, because that is one of the forces that keeps this moving forward. Bitch, but don’t be discouraged to the point of giving up.

There is still a long way to go but you’ve come a long way, baby. Have a vagina slim.

Re: Footballers Wives
If you have a region-free DVD player, you can get season 1-4 from amazon.co.uk and watch it on your TV. I’m assuming you’ve been watching it on BBC America? I can’t make up my mind between Footballers Wives and Mile High. So much drama everywhere….

Hahaha! Mile High is a fucking hysterical and oh so melodramatic and cheesy. I mean, those fucking bright blue flight attendant clothes… jesus. I used to watch it all the time.

Footballers Wives is trash art and nice escapism but seriously. You’ve ridiculed groundbreaking, socio-political shows in the past like Six Feet Under and even Buffy (yes, it’s extremely political and makes fun of pop culture, don’t write it off as teen crap just because of the ironic sucky title) even though you haven’t seen an episode! TV does fucking suck (especially at the moment) but there is some brilliant shit out there (that usually doesn’t last a season, but DVDs are timeless). You need to give some shows a chance before you dismiss them.

Please, PLEASE do me a favour Madge and just download ONE episode of Buffy called “The Body” (I’m sure you can find it on a torrent site). It’s one of the best pieces of work I’ve ever seen dealing with death, grief and loss. And especially what you’ve been going through with Gussie, it might help. Trust me on this.

shut the fuck up about the gay cause. Gays are not treated equally in this society and as long as there is ignorance and religion gays will always be treated “FUNNY”

The producers of the film select the characters that best fit the roll. Have you seen rent? When is the last time you’ve seen a broadway play. Gay’s are over represented in the theatre, you don’t see straight people bitching because they are under represented in the theatre. You lesbians are always just looking for something to bitch about, why don’t you BE POSITIVE for once and just be happy that they made a gay film. Quit bitching about such trivial things, don’t you know that the earth is warming at an alarming pace and were all going to be dead in 10 years!!

Would it be possible for you to please post Norman’s address. I would like to visit him when I am in Florida in April. Thank you.
