support for medicare for all is hovering around 70%, but as Hilary can tell you, the majority opinion doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is what people in the swing states feel and think. Rick writes about medicare for all specifically in the book as it relates to these voters. Pandemic or not, they’re simply not going to vote for something that could slide us into a broader socialism and thanks to Reagan drilling it into our grandparents, our parents and many of our heads and hearts (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYrlDlrLDSQ) it’s very likely a hurdle that will dog us until we get a lot more younger voters going to the polls. I’ll find the chapter for you in case you skimmed.
I like your point about people lying about voting for him and it skewing the polls, and if it weren’t for the pandemic I think he might win again. The wind appears to not be in his sails as it was in 2016, and he still can’t get a footing on a narrative about Joe. His campaign staff is frustrated because he’s tired, and what little energy he has he is spending on Fauci and other inconsequential things. I remain optimistic but we’re in the upside-down now, so who fucking knows.
love you Madge! Don’t drown at the slab please.
Agree with your comments on “the letter.” I keep my mouth shut on a lot of topics because of the dynamics the letter points to. I’ve mostly thought the compaints about the chilling effects of P.C. culture were over blown. However, I have realized recently how many things I just don’t say. I don’t have any platform or public reputation to lose, but I find myself utterly mute on the Black Lives Matter moevement in my town, because it’s obvious that anything less than total agreement with the “concencus” positions would make me part of the problem. Which means it’s pretty hard for me to be an active part of the solution.
