very interesting grum…
regarding the news article about the ugly threat which I’m shocked to know that the Saudi government official is in a position of making threats in the first place…
but i disagree with you when you derived from the article that there might be a direct connection with ether funding or total control of terrorists.. for one simple reason the religious extremist and terrorists are their biggest threat.. they have directly attacked in 2 boomings buildings of the ministry of interior one of which is the main headquarters of the ministry which holds the minister office prince Naif Bin AbduAziz…
the government benefits from religion and theocracy in two ways: 1. taming the population using ultra religious education, media keeping the society as a whole from thinking by it self 2. keeping the threat of Islamic extremist away from making a Taliban like regime…
i tried to digest the information the way you put it… but it just sound like a conspiracy theory to me…
i think they just threated the British government just to cut intelligence to cover up the embarrassment and to get the deal…
I’ve reread the article a few times now and think it’s saying that the BAE decided to use the spectre of terror attacks to get the investigations dropped, not that the Saudis could directly order the attacks. Although it raises the question of complicity of the Saudis if they did stop passing Britain intelligence about terror plots that they had. I don’t think it would constitute outright complicity, but where do you draw the line?
In the end, the financial interests did terrorize the British investigation, in a round about way, as they preyed upon Blair’s fears of another attack to get him to act in a desired way. Not nearly as messy as sending bombs into the tubes.
The entire affair illustrates the power that fear has over a society, and how that fear can be exploited by many interests.
I would like to add that I don’t like the use of the phrase “Conspiracy Theory” because it’s often wielded by the major powers and their media to smear and dismiss people who raise legitimate questions their actions. There are plenty of ideas and theories that are insane on their face and nonsense, but there are plenty of documented instances of major world powers acting behind the scenes to achieve their goals.
I’d direct people to investigate the foiled Fascist plot against FDR in the 1930s as an example of the ruling elite plotting together against the people of the US.
The first paragraph of the Guardian article was misleading then. The reporter was making it sound too sensational, though threatening to hold back intelligence about possible terrorist attacks is bad enough. It sounds like a double game the Saudis are playing, just like the current Pakistani government has been doing. BAE was just assisting the Saudis in that regard, I think.
These recent shows have been really good, Madge.
And the name “Prince Bandar” sounds like something from a science-fiction movie.
