The more i listen to max, the more i feel like he’s talking out of his ass.
Madge, I’m scared. What are people like me suppose to do? If the economy is going to crash, if we’re going to faschism, what are we suppose to do? Us people without jobs & no way out. It really scares me.
I have been thinking about that all day too. Max seems to think that everything is black and white and cut and dry, but it is not. Life is not that simple. I live in the fucking bible belt, and even the crazy right wing republicans around here know that things are about to really change for our country, for the world. America is falling, has fallen and most of us DO have enough brains to realize that the next stage of the game is going to be tough. The easiest thing to do is to leave, but wanting things to always be easy is actually our country’s biggest problem.
This is our country and we must not give up and run away and point and laugh as it crumbles. We just can’t. We are stronger than that; we deserve more than that. There has to come a point where as a nation we start taking responsibility for our mistakes and learn to grow up and forgive other people for theirs. There has never been a perfect human being or country or political party or anything for that matter. All things are a little fucked up in one way or another. I just don’t want to be one of those people who leave the field crying because they did not like the way the game was played; I want to try to help change the rules.
I know that all sounds retarded and dramatic and fruity. It just seems that really the extreme left wing is as out of touch with what is really going on as the extreme right wing. I hear both sides and wonder where the hell these people came from. Extremes got us into this mess and they are sure as hell not going to get us out. You know?
ps- Some of us like to talk about Star Jones instead of talking about our vaginas stinking. What’s the difference?
Great show! Knocks the spots off any corporate media rubbish.
Andy, don’t be scared brother, if enough of us take action, we can control the excesses of these multi-national corporations starting with Max and Stacy’s idea of supporting the boycott of Coca-Cola.
If we fail at least we gave it a shot, it’s better than any online game and we could gain a new caring global village for all.
I’m with Madge, Karmabanque and hopefully others all the way! Let’s do this thing for real.
…i think it’s good that you are staying and fighting. be prepared for a substantial fight. remember, the first time americans fought for their independence was a long, tough, slog…
I think anyone who buys the whole ‘left,’ ‘right’ diversion might like to read Paul Craig Roberts – former Reagan administration official on what he sees as tyranny stroke fascism in the Bush administration. This is something he published today: http://www.vdare.com/roberts/060207_epiphany.htm
i enjoyed that popcast and i like ned and stacy.
What is good about Max and Stacey for me is that, while they major on US policy, they can very clearly explain how they think this will play out for the rest of the world and that sort of insight seems hard to come by in mainstream media. Regardless of whether you agree with every point they make, the gist of the message should be clear.
I have to relate everything to the world I know; to strip it down to its bare essentials, it strikes me that the US and the UK are in a fairly similar situation and I can well imagine that while certain results will be different (we do not have a religious right with any kind of power, for example) the financial consequences could remain the same: a tough time for all. I have a foot in both camps: live in the UK, do business in USD (where most of my customers are), so it all matters to me.
Max has essentially confirmed my suspicions that years of cheap borrowing coupled with irresponsible lending, a subsequent rise in the cost of living, fundamental flaws in the system such as a politicised monetarists and an overwhelming influence from bossy corporations are all contributing to the rot. Everything seems to be at bursting point and it’s only going to take one more thing before it goes pop. If it seems obvious to me how come the people who are meant to be managing this stuff seem oblivious?
While anyone’s chances of influencing monetary policy in this climate seem slim (markets have a habit of working these things out by themselves, usually the hard way) I truly believe that people still can make a difference.
The US religious right is a political movement entirely unrepresentative of true Christianity. It is a cult, taking true beliefs and distorting them to suit fascist means. If what we are seeing now is merely the surface of the underlying problem it needs to be stamped out. The more people stand up against that and show true humanity in everything they do, the more chance there will be of avoiding the real horrors Max mentioned. We see these signs for a reason.
Or is it really so far gone that a dissenting view cannot be heard or registered on a ballot paper?
(Sorry this comment was so long, but you know me, prone to ramble and bore).

Max – also, please note that I am not trying to rip on you with this message. I would just like _evidence_ to support your claims… I also wonder why you and Stacy are the only people I’ve ever heard this information from? Not even DemocracyNow! seems to be following your line of thinking. Are there any others out there who are maybe published somewhere that are discussing the imminent demise of the US Dollar for instance? (I have an idea of why this may never happen and may in fact be impossible even if it _logically_ makes total sense – but we’ll get to that later)
Finally, I am very curious about your background – how did you end up with your worldview? (I am curious about everyone’s backgrounds. I may disagree with people on issues but I’m much more interested in how they arrived at that conclusion.)
Despite the overarching negative political ramifications that nearly always mark this holiday, I’d like to wish all Americans (including ex-pats) a Happy July 4th.
If you are looking at Democracy Now for the financial information we talk about, you are looking in the wrong place. You need to look at the Financial Times most importantly and then at the other financial press like financialsense.com or 321gold.com. And then read people like Ron Paul or Paul Craig Roberts, both who happen to be Republican.
All the Americans are a little scared, Stacy–they never hear things like this. Their first response, not surprisingly, is denial.
My advice would be: listen to KarmaBanque/”The Paris Podcast” regularly. With regularly exposure, you’ll learn to appreciate the satirical edge, wild imaginings and stunning imagery of Max & Stacey–the recent “Norman Bates-ification of America” material is fantastic and sharply observed. You’ll appreciate the way they get way beyond politics and interpret our times through sound economic indicators. And suddenly, this very confused world will start to come into focus and certainly make more sense than the shit the MSM is shovelling. And you’ll start to see and hear the news differently; you’ll see that what Max & Stacy are talking about has always been there, in your own backyard, you just never put your attention on it or knew what to make of it.
Once you understand that it’s not about left, right and centre, flag burning or gay marriage…then you’ll be cooking with gas. Listen to KarmaBanque and get beyond ridiculous party politics.
PLUS–they’re an entertaining double-act to boot! Brilliant stuff. Cheers Max & Stacy and thanks for the shows.
also – thank you soneil for your insight into why you enjoy their podcast. 🙂
Thanks Stacy for your citations but I was wondering if I could get more background on you guys? (I looked around your website and have heard you on Madge’s show many times before but was more interested on “how you got to this point.”)
re: Google – yes, but there are a lot of two-bit crackpot activists out there too who may be saying the same thing. 🙂 I would like to know what _your_ sources are that you base this on. (Or do you simply search google all day for articles from _anywhere_ that agree with your assumptions?)
Soneil – it’s not that I’m in denial – I agreed wholeheartedly with Max’s assessments in the beginning. It is only now that I find I am questioning his assessments because I’m not sure _why_ I’m agreeing with him. I tend to be very skeptical by nature.
Madge, Paris agrees with you. You look gorgeous. Just like Polly Purebread.
I’m big as a house.
Madge, have you indulged in some French cosmetics? Your skin looks beautiful. New foundation, maybe? Plaster of Paris? You look a lot younger than you make yourself out to be.
