In a move similar to California Govr. Ahnold, the 17th Street Canal reconstruction was faked for a photo-op for Bush.

From http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9233396/ :
The same day Brown wrote Chertoff, Brown also urged local fire and rescue departments outside Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi not to send trucks or emergency workers into disaster areas without an explicit request for help from state or local governments.

Conspiracy Theory (as first theorized on Air America’s Morning Sedition) something to the effect of:

Since bush is embarking on a self-appointed panel to find out just what went wrong that he can shift bame to the local leaders, Democratic Mayor Nagin of New Orleans and Democratic Louisiana Governor Blanco.

Furthermore, since Dick Cheney was former leader of Halliburton, all this destruction from not getting help there sooner will enrich Halliburton and all the other contractors that will be hired to rebuild New Orleans.

So that will supposedly help the economy since so many jobs are created for this, but then again what about the jobs of the New Orleans people who no longer have a job or a home (many of them who only had a home and nothing else prior to the hurricane)? Well, they’ll establish roots wherever they were located to and find a home and a job there.

Now, since New Orleans is being rebuilt by contractors, the contractors and landlords will be able to charge market rate for all the new apartments and residences. This is a two-pronged attack: one against the poor (they won’t be able to pay for the new houses/apts) and one against the Democrats (because New Orleans was once a blue city).

And, mind you, this was from an administration whose platform pledged to keep America safe from catastrophe, whether it be chemical or biological weapons, terrorists, or hurricanes

As his approval ratings sink ever lower, he has to do something.

Unreal. This is probably one of the most touching and real episodes of Yeast Radio I’ve heard. Madge, you hit the nail on the head with this one. When you said “My God. What happened?” I started to tear up. It is just too sad. How did this happen?

How can we get rid of this evil motherfucker and his cronies? Do I call my congressperson or senator to ask them to impeach? I’ve signed the petitions, but it doesn’t seem to be enough…

I get so angry and sad at the same time when I listened to the end of this episode with all the turmoil and insanity that went unchecked and the people who weren’t cared for for days. These people that our government just left to rot for days… It is beyond infuriating.

I’m a fan of yours through Ragan.

Thank you for this podcast. I am in the process of distributing it to everyone I know.
I hope this inspires people to take action, even if it’s to give an hour of their days to see the reality of others’ everyday situations.
I hope it makes people realize that besides this tragedy, there are people starving and cold and sick and tired of all the bullshit but don’t have the privileges the rest of us have to make it known.
I keep wondering if revolution will be actualized. perhaps this will fuel it.
