YR205 Back to the Beginning
Here’s the story from the beginning. Now that I’m home, I’m going to (attempt) to tell the story in chronological order. So first, today, I read for you a moving letter from Cindy Sheehan followed by the very beginning of our trip: A cap ride to O’Hare at 6:30 AM on Friday.
Strong Words from Strong Women
“The media are wrong. The people who have come out to Camp Casey to help coordinate the press and events with me are not putting words in my mouth, they are taking words out of my mouth. I have been known for sometime as a person who speaks the truth and speaks it strongly. I have always called a liar a liar and a hypocrite a hypocrite. Now I am urged to use softer language to appeal to a wider audience. Why do my friends at Camp Casey think they are there? Why did such a big movement occur from such a small action on August 6, 2005?”
YR204: Dr. Lowrey and Gold Star Parents
Civil Rights leader and personal friend of The Kings, Dr. Joseph Eckers Lowrey calls for our troops to come home, then several gold star parents give their very moving opinions on the state of the war in Iraq.
TECHNICAL NOTE: There is some messed up audio in the middle of this recording. I will fix it when I get back to Chicago. The gold star parents’ speeches are intact, so please just fast forward past the goofy part.
Gold Star Parent Speech #1
This is one of several speeches by parents of killed soldiers.
Cindy Sheehan – Person of the year
From Erik’s Rants
In 1989 the Peoples Republic of China sent troops into Tiananmen Square to suppress a group pro-democracy protestors. As the tanks progressed into the square one man in an act of defiance against the government that was killing his people, walked out from the crowd and stood alone in front of the line of approaching tanks. The tanks stopped. The driver in the lead tank tried to steer around the man, but he moved in front of the tank and stood there, keeping the tanks at bay for nearly a half an hour.
YR203 Camp Casey Day 2 Wrap-Up
Pillow Talk from Crawford
Madge, Patricia and Fausto talk from bed about their impressions so far.
