Madge, I love ya and I support all that you do, but I won’t be listening to today’s show. Todd is over-exposed and I’m frankly sick and tired of him and his book.

Madge,

Dynamic vs Condenser microphones: All you really need to know is that condensers require phantom power (48 v generally) to operate. Condensers are generally more sensitive (to any sound) and less durable than dynamics. Dynamics tend to be better able to handle loud sound sources like thunder, aircraft, snare drums, race car engines, Marshall stacks and the like.

For speaking voice (like in podcasts) either kind of microphone will do fine. In fact, I use both kinds as every microphone has a different “sound” to it. I use them almost like someone would use a lens for a camera. Each microphone will do subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) things to whatever sound they pick up – which I use for different perspectives in the sound field.

My main podcasting microphones for VO are an AKG C1000 (approx. $199) and a Shure SM 58 (approx. $99). I use other, more expensive mics for different sound/music recording, but that’s another story.

EV-RE20 is a dynamic mic and very popular in broadcast. Also, a Shure SM7 is a dynamic and very popular in broadcast.

AKG C-4000 (that you mentioned being used a little at Sirius) is a condenser mic.

Hope this feeds your lesbian techno-lust a little bit.

Oh Madge, I love this show. But of course, I’m a tech geek, like your lesbianself. Anyway, enjoy this show.

Perhaps you can start a tech section of your site. Like tech podcasts that you listen to and sources you go to for tech stuff.

Great show BigM, I dig your tech stuff too.
I gotta recommend my shure sm7b this costs around $500, but you’ll find it cheaper being a lesbian, I’ve been using one of these for about a year for vocals and directors commentary on the porns I shoot – it’s been a great investment, buy one lesbian, slap it on the podshow credit card, AdamC uses this mic too.
Liked what you did to podcasting from superman – what key was that ? seeya xxxxxxx

Hi Madge,

One person whose opinion I value highly when it comes to audioproduction, just bought this Soundcraft desktop mixing board to replace his Inkel mixer that died on him after 15 years of use, to produce his online radio show.

Sofar he is very pleased with it. It is one of the few mixers around that offers a large number of (stereo) switches/inputs, at a small footprint and reasonable price.

It’s the Spirit ES:

If Todd is looking for a Shure mic, have him check the Musicians Friend web site. That’s where I get all my equipment now. They have great deals on all kinds of equipment, including A/V and mike stuff. The drawback is that it’s by mail (sight unseen, in other words), but it’s all new stuff, and works really well. I’ve had great luck.

Here’s the link to the Shure mike list:

Never hear anyone refer to me as overexposed funny never the less, talking tech is fun and glad to see you allowed your true tech self come out of the closet. 🙂 Had fun on the show and hope your listeners enjoyed it!

Highly enjoyable yeast episode although I wish it was still an hour long – oh well.
cheers Todd, thanks Madge.
P.s – I love the book Todd, infact I prefer it to the Bible which I thought was a shitty read.

I can’t remember if it was during this podcast or the one before… but you asked us, the gentle audience, for some ideas on material for an upcoming skit.

How about Madge as the reluctant/distracted On*Star dispatcher. I could see Madge taking that situation into many different directions.

Just an idea.

Love the podcast.

CB4

OnStar is that built-in 911-type emergency service that’s standard on many new cars. It contacts a central location with a dispatcher in the event of an emergency and there’s a tracking device built into the car’s electrical system (or something) so the dispatcher can pinpoint where the car is located and send help.

It’s a cool idea, but might that work better as just an audio segment? Maybe you could do it for your podcast sometime…

Actually now I think its a dumb idea. Nevermind.

By the way, I’ve been wondering how Madge Jr. is doing these days?

Geez, it’s been a while. The last time I saw Madge Jr. was in the picture-in-picture with the Human Dog interview.

Please send my regards to Madge Jr.

Nice move on the Motu mixer, that’s the one I would have gone for.
Get a big broadcast mic, nothing compares to a large diaphram mic for vocals. todays show sounded great anyway but yesterdays was not the greatest and as a result I got angry and headbutted a friend in the penis.

Mary, I can’t get a big broadcast mic because I wouldn’t use it. I need something I can walk around with. Do you not LISTEN TO ME? Should I talk EVEN LOUDER? Sheesh.
