Jason Smith has apparently been a victim of a hate crime:

Three men attacked Chicago Free Press photographer/art director Jason Smith and his boyfriend Michael Suh in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago May 28 in what police have described as a hate crime.
Smith and Suh were walking north on Halsted Street near the intersection of Lincoln and Fullerton about 10:45 p.m. when three young Caucasian men drove past them and yelled an anti-gay epithet, the Free Press reported. As they neared the stoplight at the intersection, where the car had stopped, Smith and Suh said they found that three of the car?s occupants had exited the car and began to taunt them. The men then attacked the couple, punching and kicking them. Smith and Suh suffered minor injuries. The men escaped down a nearby alley.

hi madge! thanks for thinking of us and letting people know what happened. we’re almost completely healed now. i had quite a black and red forehead for a week and a half. they also kicked me in the back, but that’s doing much better. onward and back to the comedy! the only satisfaction we got was that michael got one of them in the eye and i was able to hit back with a plastic milk crate that was on the street by the white elephant resale shop.

one of the guys yelled from their car as they drove past, “which ones of you guys takes it, and which one of you guys gives it?” and the yelled, “fucking fags.” so it’s pretty clear it was anti-gay.

I’m sorry this happened to you Jason! I’m sorry it happens to anyone…I’ve noticed it usually TAKES at least 3 redneck assholes in one car (and did it have glasspacks in the muffler, too?!) to hassle people they consider “easy targets.”
So these dumbfucks escaped down the alley…on foot, or did they pool their two remaining brain cells long enough to take their vehicle with them??
Too bad I wasn’t there…Daddy has a sharp set of tools on his keychain! I could’ve given their Yokelwagon quite the little makeover…;-)
hi everybody,
ya the jerks escaped down the alley and we didn’t get a license plate on their car because the one driver (four total) drove around the corner and apparently picked them up. it would have been sweet if they had left their car and we could have gotten a tag. that would have meant jailtime for them. oh well. life goes on.
