Adam Curry, a former MTV host who developed software that lets people automatically receive these programs on Apple’s iPod and other players, will produce and be host of a four-hour program every weekday starting May 13 on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Mr. Curry will help choose material for “Adam Curry’s PodShow” from some of the thousands of amateur shows produced in basements, living rooms and dormitories. Sirius subscribers, who pay $12.95 a month for the service, can listen to the show on channel 148, “Talk Central.”

Well there is now!

The article incorrectly goes on to describe/belittle podcasting as the audio equivalent of that most discredited and past it’s sell by date media form known as ‘Reality Television’. This has the reek of spin, PR and hype used to sell the idea by Curry and co to Sirius. Remember the powers that be in MSM have NO IMAGINATION and can only conceive of anything ‘new’ by referencing it back to what is currently in vogue i.e. ‘Reality Television’.

It was only a matter of time before MSM aka Sirius saw podcasting as a source of free/cheap material which it could plunder. Even better if it comes attached with a demographic that they would kill to own – the dumb but high spending yoof market.

‘The audience for the show is likely to be skewed toward 18- to 34-year-old listeners, who are also the core users of MP3 players.’

Again more spin and hype in the selling of ‘podcasting’ to MSM.

I assume the new show will be a cut and paste assemblage of what Curry/MSM consider to be the best/juiciest/most salacious titbits from the ‘podosphere’.
Curry will no doubt justify this by saying he will be ‘promoting podcasting’ – yeah, rather like an abattoir promotes meat.

What the hell is the point of putting a podcast on the radio – even if it is digital radio? Well the answer’s simple;- so MSM/Curry makes money out of other peoples ideas and work. They see it as just a rich new seam of virgin material to plunder, mine and ponce off. Once they’ve sucked the life out of it they’ll start casting around for the next ‘undiscovered’ ‘natural resource’ source to exploit. Hey, but isn’t that just (American) capitalism? Absolutely typical main stream media!

What!? Oh man.. I dunno about this. Satellite radio? Podcasting is so much better than that bullshit. I gotta research more into this, but I no longer trust the direction Podshow is trying to take this.
Serious radio not so much, but Sony Music, Warner Music Group…. some of these corporations are fundamentally evil and they will do to podcasting what they did to music distro… ooooy

We must admit, however, that podcasting is reaching a certain boiling point… Now there are SO MANY podcasts popping up daily.. and most of them SUCK… More accurately, there are so many popping up that (like the www) there are too many to take in.

Madge and her lovely YeastRadio is perfectly poised (deservedly so) to take her podcasts to the next level (i.e. so that she can quit the day job with the girl band)… as well as acquiring some hotly needed music licensing rights

If we love her so much, imagine how much the rest of the world will… At least we can tell our grandkids that we used to listen to Aunt Madge when she was just talking to a select few thousand of us… Rather than the millions she is about to.
