I download through the BitTorrents, Madge. But if I really like something like a TV show, movie or CD, I buy it eventually. I can’t afford cable, and I wouldn’t see hardly any TV shows if it weren’t for the Torrents. Once I’ve watched the shows, I delete ‘em from my disk.

I also download software but only if I can’t afford it. But if I can, I pay for it.

Your co host sounded just like Chris from Family Guy.

I take/give copies of music with friends. I find that I go and buy the CD if I like it so I have a hard copy. And having some free mp3s often leads me to want to find out more about the artist and go see their show – which is probably where they make the most money. No free mp3, no knowledge, no show.

I don’t put any license on my podcast. Free to use however. I can always use the exposure. But then, I don’t want too much exposure. Too demanding on my free time.

I think people got so emotional in the chak/comments about the filesharing because most of your audience are artists/musicians/creative people and were pissed by Peter’s blase attitude towards the artists affected by filesharing. He was basically saying “you as the creator have no control over the distribution of your product and I don’t care how you feel about that so get the fuck over it and quit whining”. I get that English is his second language but he sounded douchey and overly defensive.

I download/steal/share music. I even use the Pirate Bay on occasion. I know its potentially harmful to artists but since my tastes lean more to the obscure, sharing it does more good in a promotional sense than harm. At the same time, I’m aware the consequences of actions and don’t try to act like a martyr for free speech as if its my god given right to rip other artists off.
